In a shocking turn of events, three Russian technicians and pilots have been caught on video engaging in a friendly gathering before hijacking a Mi-8 helicopter and defecting to Ukraine. The incident, as reported by the Telegram channel Baza, has raised concerns about the loyalty and actions of individuals within the Russian military.
The leaked video shows the group of young men enjoying a leisurely time in nature, with one of them, Maxim Kuzminov, urging others to join them. “It’s a pleasant 38 degrees Celsius here, we’re having beer and eating meat, come join us,” Kuzminov can be heard saying.
However, a few days later, two of the technicians, Nikita Kiryanov and Khushbakht Tursunov, decided to surrender themselves to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), while Kuzminov took the initiative to fly the Mi-8 helicopter to Ukrainian territory.
The Russian Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation stated that the Federal Security Service (FSB) would initiate a criminal case against Kuzminov for his act of hijacking the helicopter. The investigators claim to have found evidence of treason in Kuzminov’s actions and have subsequently handed over all collected evidence to the FSB.
Kuzminov’s successful escape with the Mi-8 helicopter from Kursk to Ukraine has prompted questions about the motives behind his actions and the extent of his involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
