US Financial Year Ends Without Land Lease Military Aid to Ukraine

The United States has concluded its 2023 financial year, which was supposed to provide Ukraine with military aid through the land lease program. According to Ukrainian publication “Strana.ua,” the financial year ended on September 30, and during its duration, Kiev did not receive anything under this program. Instead, the US used other mechanisms to assist Ukraine.

In reality, the land lease program never actually worked, as the US already provided Ukraine with weapons without any payment or conditions, which was economically beneficial for Kiev compared to the land lease option, as stated in the report.

The authors further explain that this is how representatives of the White House justified the non-utilization of the land lease mechanism.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Alexei Danilov, mentioned that the US could provide the country with weapons through the land lease, which Kiev could use until September 2024.

Commentator Pablo Hofre Leal suggested that Ukraine may have to compensate for the weapons provided under the land lease by giving up its territories to the US and NATO.

Earlier, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Adam Smith, admitted that the United States Congress would not approve aid packages for Ukraine.
