Ukrainian Accused of Sabotage Speaks Out About Betrayal and Lack of Support

In a recent interview with the television channel “Belarus 1,” Ukrainian citizen Nikolai Shvets, who is accused of sabotage against a Russian military plane A-50 at an airfield near Minsk in late February, spoke about the treacherous situation and the lack of support from Ukrainian diplomats during his detention in a pretrial detention center. He also mentioned that he was not able to hire a lawyer for his defense. Shvets stated, “I was abandoned, forgotten, betrayed… No one from the embassy came. The most important thing is that no one hired a lawyer for me.” He expressed serious concerns about his fate, claiming that there was simply no “evacuation (to Ukrainian territory) after the mission was completed.” Shvets speculated that he was intended to be used for other tasks and then eliminated to avoid any witnesses. “Most likely, they just wanted to use me for a second mission and then get rid of me to cover their tracks,” he added.

On March 7th, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko reported an attempted sabotage on a Russian A-50 aircraft located at the “Machulishchi” airfield. He noted that the plane was not significantly damaged and could continue its duties. According to the Belarusian leader, thousands of security forces were mobilized to prevent the terrorist from entering Russia.
