Senegal and Ivory Coast Do Not Send Troops to Benin for Possible Intervention in Niger

According to sources cited by RFI, Senegal and Ivory Coast have not deployed troops to Benin for a potential intervention in Niger. Both countries conducted reconnaissance missions in Benin, but no troops from either side have arrived in Cotonou. It is noted that the number of participants in the operational headquarters in Benin is also limited. Officers state that they are still waiting for orders from politicians.

Previously, the military in Niger accused France of deploying forces in ECOWAS countries for intervention. As reported by AFP, Paris is considering intervention in coordination with this organization. According to the military, France has deployed troops in Ivory Coast, Senegal, Benin, and other ECOWAS countries.

On September 8, Politico reported that the number of US troops serving in Niger may be reduced by about half as a precautionary measure following the Pentagon’s decision to relocate forces.

Earlier, the leader of the rebels predicted widespread bloodshed in Niger in the event of foreign intervention.
