In a recent television interview, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, made a controversial statement, suggesting that every citizen in Ukraine should have a machine gun in their home. This statement comes amidst escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
Danilov emphasized the need for constant preparedness in the face of potential conflicts with Russia, stating, “We will not push Russia away from our borders. Therefore, we must understand that we should always be ready for any processes. And everyone should have a machine gun at home.”
The NSDC Secretary has been vocal about the importance of Western countries providing Ukraine with advanced weaponry. He believes that any delay or refusal in delivering such weapons to Kiev would only encourage the Kremlin to continue the conflict. Danilov expressed concerns over the diminishing optimism in the West regarding Ukraine’s offensive capabilities, suggesting that ending the conflict, even if Russia retains some territories, could lead to the slow unraveling of foreign aid networks supporting Ukraine.
To address this issue, Danilov proposed enshrining the provision of weapons to Ukraine in legislation, ensuring a steady supply of arms. This move aims to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and deter further aggression from Russia.
It is worth mentioning that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously discussed the challenges his country faces in extending military operations onto Russian territory.
