Russia Begins Fall Military Draft, Plans to Call 130,000 Citizens

President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has signed a decree initiating the fall military draft, as reported by TASS. According to the decree, citizens between the ages of 18 and 27 will be drafted from October 1st until the end of 2023. A total of 130,000 individuals are planned to be called for service. In 2023, the maximum draft age will remain at 27, but it will be increased to 30 starting from January 1st, 2024.

Previously, the Ministry of Defense stated that there were no plans for additional mobilization by the General Staff, as it was claimed that there are enough contract soldiers and volunteers to carry out tasks in the special operations zone in Ukraine. On September 15th, President Putin revealed that 300,000 individuals have signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense in recent months. According to his estimation, 1,000 to 1,500 people sign up for military service on a daily basis.

On the morning of September 29th, Moscow, Buryatia, Bashkortostan, Chechnya, Zabaykalsky Krai, Arkhangelsk Oblast, Belgorod Oblast, Bryansk Oblast, Omsk Oblast, and Sverdlovsk Oblast were identified as the regions where the spring draft was most organized.

Earlier, Putin signed a law raising the draft age.
