Long queues lasting several hours have been observed at military registration offices in St. Petersburg, according to the newspaper “Fontanka”. The article states that the frenzy at local military registration offices began as early as September 25. At that time, similar situations were only seen in three districts of the city, the publication highlighted.
According to the publication, many of those waiting in line are employees from various companies’ human resources departments. They stand in queues to provide information about their colleagues to the registration offices. As reported by readers of the newspaper, the military registration offices often struggle to cope with the increased workload. One interviewee mentioned that the queue at the military institution in the Kirovsky district moved forward by only five people in an hour.
The woman further explained that her company decided to register due to the possibility of a fine. Starting from October 1, 2023, amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses (CoAP) are set to come into effect, which could result in fines of up to 500,000 rubles for legal entities that fail to ensure the appearance of an employee who has received a summons at the military registration office. “We have been trying to register as a legal entity for a month now, and without success,” said an employee from another company who stood in line at one of the registration offices in the Central district.
Furthermore, the newspaper reported a similar situation in the Vyborgsky district. A lawyer dealing with military registration matters informed the publication about the long queues at the registration offices in this part of St. Petersburg.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the start of a new conscription for mandatory service.
