Azerbaijan Forces Occupy Former Ministry Building in Nagorno-Karabakh

In a recent development, Azerbaijani forces have occupied the former Ministry of Internal Affairs building in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s capital, Stepanakert. This news has been reported by CBC TV Azerbaijan. A video released by the channel shows Azerbaijani police vehicles and military personnel at the entrance of the building.

Prior to this, the press center of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan had announced that the former Minister of Defense of Nagorno-Karabakh, Levon Mnatsakanyan, had illegally entered Azerbaijani territory and was subsequently detained.

On September 19th, the Azerbaijani authorities declared a local operation in Karabakh. The aim of this operation, as stated by Baku, was to prevent “large-scale provocations,” disarm Armenian army units, and withdraw them from the region.

After a day, with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, an agreement was reached between the parties to cease fire. On September 28th, the leader of Nagorno-Karabakh, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree stating the cessation of the existence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic until January 1, 2024.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament had criticized Russia’s participation in a human rights conference under the Council of Europe.
