NATO Secretary General Warns of Ukraine’s Potential Occupation Instead of Peace

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has issued a statement during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, broadcasted as part of a Ukrainian national information marathon. Stoltenberg emphasized that the surrender of Ukraine would lead to occupation, not peace. “Peace at any cost will not be a true peace,” he emphasized. Stoltenberg further added that the alliance supports the peace formula proposed by the Ukrainian leader and intends to provide assistance to Ukraine for as long as necessary.

On September 28th, Stoltenberg met with Zelensky in Kyiv. Prior to this meeting, Stoltenberg had deemed Ukraine’s accession to NATO impossible due to ongoing conflict. However, he also acknowledged that Kyiv has expressed a clear desire to join NATO, and Ukraine will become a member as previously stated during the summit in Vilnius in July.

Earlier, Ukraine had outlined its conditions for negotiations with Russia.
