France has announced its intention to appoint a military attaché in Yerevan and open a consulate in the Syunik region of Armenia. The country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, made this statement in the French National Assembly, as reported by RIA Novosti. Colonna emphasized that they will enhance their cooperation with Armenia in the defense sector.
The minister announced that a military attaché will be sent to the French Embassy in Yerevan. Additionally, she mentioned that a consulate in the Syunik region will soon begin its operations. On September 26, France offered assistance to those affected by the explosion at a fuel depot near Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh. Colonna wrote on her X-account (formerly Twitter) that Paris is ready to deploy its resources.
On September 20, French President Emmanuel Macron, during a phone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, requested guarantees for the safety of the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. The French leader also had a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan the day before. Earlier, Azerbaijani President Aliyev stated the conditions for ceasing hostilities in Karabakh.
