Terrorist Attack in Azerbaijan Leaves Six Dead, Suspects Arrested

BAKU, Sept 25 – RIA Novosti. Suspects involved in a terrorist attack against four Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) officers and two civilians in the vicinity of Tagavard village in Karabakh on September 19 have been apprehended, according to the Office of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan on Monday. “During counter-terrorism operations on September 20, individuals involved in terrorist activities carried out on September 19, 2023, at the 58th kilometer of the Ahmedbeyli-Fizuli-Shusha road and in the vicinity of Tagavard village, Khodjavend district, which resulted in the deaths of two civilians and four police officers from a mine explosion on the recently constructed tunnel road, were disarmed and detained,” the statement said. It is noted that the arrest took place the day after the incident. Earlier, the Azerbaijani MIA reported that on September 19, at 04:00 (Moscow time), a truck belonging to the State Agency of Highways of Azerbaijan was detonated by a mine at the 58th kilometer of the Ahmedbeyli-Fizuli-Shusha road, resulting in the death of two agency employees. MIA officers were dispatched to the scene in another truck. At 03:30, on the newly constructed tunnel road near Tagavard village, the second truck was also detonated by a mine, which, according to the investigation, was installed by an Armenian armed group from Karabakh. Four Azerbaijani MIA officers in the truck were killed on the spot.
