Russian Su-34 Fighter Bombers Strike Ukrainian Targets with Guided Bombs

Russian Su-34 fighter bombers from the Central Military District have carried out strikes on Ukrainian command and observation posts, armored vehicles, and unmanned aerial vehicle control points in the Krasnolimansk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense told RIA Novosti. The use of guided aviation bombs by the Su-34 crews allowed for the precise destruction of enemy fortifications and equipment from a high altitude. Previously, it was reported that the Su-34 bombers in the Central Military District began using universal planning and correction modules (UPCM) with unguided FAB-1500 bombs weighing one and a half tons. The source clarified that “the use of UPCM with larger caliber bombs is now possible, and the Su-34 can strike Ukrainian targets with UPCM-250, UPCM-500, and UPCM-1500.” The universal planning and correction module is attached to a conventional free-falling bomb, transforming it into a guided weapon. The module has folding wings and control surfaces, as well as a control system that automatically guides the munition to the target. Previously, the Su-34 was used in special operations with UPCM bombs weighing 250 and 500 kilograms.
