Russian President’s Spokesperson Condemns Invitation of Former SS Member to Canadian Parliament

Moscow, September 25 – In response to the appearance of 98-year-old former SS member Yaroslav Hunky in the Canadian parliament, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian president, emphasized that there is no statute of limitations for Nazi crimes and ignorance of World War II history could lead to the resurgence of fascism.

“No matter how many years have passed, these crimes have no expiration date. Such carelessness is certainly outrageous,” said the deputy chief of staff of the Russian president’s administration. Peskov also noted that a generation has grown up in the West, including Canada, that is unaware of the history of the 20th century.

“We know that many Western countries, including Canada, have raised a young generation that does not know who fought against whom and what happened during World War II. They know nothing about the threat of fascism. This poses a risk of fascism manifesting itself here and there. And we can see now how it is almost trying to rise in the heart of Europe, in Ukraine, where we are engaged in an uncompromising struggle,” added the Kremlin spokesperson.

The responsibility for inviting the Ukrainian nationalist to parliament was taken by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Anthony Rota, who stated that he became aware of “additional information that made him regret the decision” later on. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that neither he nor President Zelensky’s delegation were aware of these plans. The Polish Ambassador to Canada, Witold Dzelski, demanded an apology from the organizers, while Dmitry Trapirov, a representative of the Israeli anti-fascist movement, said they would ask the Israeli Ambassador to Canada to speak out against such actions.
