Rocket debris from the S-300 missile system was discovered in the village of Kitskany, Transnistria, according to Oleg Belyakov, co-chair of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) from the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR). The incident, which occurred on September 25 at 00:54 local time, caused significant concern among the population residing in the Kitskany area. The missile fragments fell within the safety zone of Kitskany, near Youth Street,” he said. Kitskany is located ten kilometers from Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria. Belyakov stated that sappers and law enforcement units were dispatched to the scene, and the area where the rocket debris fell has been cordoned off. Military observers from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces have also arrived. “Preliminary data from the combined military command and the sappers working at the scene indicate that these are fragments of a combat missile from the S-300 missile system, located within a residential property. The missile’s warhead is lying in the garden,” clarified the co-chair. Belyakov added that the missile, dating back to 1968, bears identifiable markings. The warhead has been removed from the scene for further investigation. The incident will be discussed at the upcoming session of the Joint Control Commission. The Joint Control Commission was established in accordance with the Moldovan-Russian Agreement on the Principles of Peaceful Settlement of the Transnistrian Conflict on July 21, 1992. It includes representatives from Moldova, Transnistria, and Russia. The JCC monitors the situation in the security zone along the Dniester River and coordinates the activities of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in the region. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the peacekeeping operation in Transnistria.
