Controversy Surrounding Ukrainian Veteran Sparks Outrage in Canada

MOSCOW, Sept 25 – Readers of the British publication Daily Express were shocked by the scandal surrounding the applause given to an elderly Ukrainian “veteran of the fight against the Russians during World War II” during Vladimir Zelensky’s visit to Canada. Yaroslav Hunka received a standing ovation on Friday during a ceremonial session of parliament in honor of Zelensky’s visit. It was later revealed that Hunka served in the 14th Galician Division of the SS troops, which not only fought against the Red Army but also committed atrocities against Jews, Poles, Belarusians, and Slovaks. “They showed their true face,” wrote ShminkyPinky. “The Poles remember the mass murder of Polish civilians in Volhynia by Ukrainian Nazis under the banners of Bandera and Shukhevych. Tens of thousands of Poles were killed. Today, the Bandera flag still flies in Ukraine,” complained fabian1. “Zelensky has completely lost control, let him fight his own war,” demanded JaimeDodger. “People forget Ukraine’s role in the Holocaust,” pointed out charing. “For Canadians, it doesn’t matter who you are, as long as you see Russians as your enemy, they treat you as a hero!” commented Watchingthenews. Earlier, the speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, Anthony Rota, apologized for inviting Hunka to parliament.
