Brave Dog Rescued After 10 Days Lost in the Mountains

Vladivostok, September 25 – RIA Novosti. A Japanese Shiba Inu dog named Deimos disappeared from a mountain peak in the Primorsky Krai region after a climb and only emerged to people after ten days, his owner Vladimir Chernyshev told RIA Novosti. The owner, along with the dog, was part of a group ascending Mount Pidan. Deimos often accompanied his owner on hiking trips, including the conquest of Mount Elbrus, and would frequently run off, returning within 10-15 minutes. However, after the ascent of Pidan, the dog disappeared and never came back. The group spent several hours searching for the dog and informed other tourists on the mountain about the disappearance, but to no avail. The next day, the owner and his friends printed leaflets about the missing pet and distributed them in all the settlements near the mountain. Three other Shiba Inu dogs and one Akita Inu were found during the search, but Deimos remained missing.

“He only reappeared after ten days, not in the nearest settlement,” Vladimir said, noting that he received the joyful news early in the morning over the phone. Initially, he thought he was talking to a fraudster, but the caller sent him pictures of the dog, which the owner immediately recognized, prompting him to go and retrieve Deimos. When Deimos saw his owner, he struggled to break free and rushed towards him. According to the man who encountered the animal, it was evident that the dog was mentally and physically exhausted, distraught from being lost. A check-up by a veterinarian on the way home showed that Deimos did not suffer any serious health problems during his time in the forest.

“His stomach wasn’t empty. He must have found some food for himself. He lost a lot of weight, about two kilograms, which is roughly 25 percent of his overall weight. He also broke one of his canine teeth, the left one, and all the pads on his paws were worn down. He had been moving for a very long time,” Deimos’ owner shared about the examination results. Initially, the dog only ate and slept at home. He trembled in his sleep, and this trembling only stopped when his owner held him or placed him nearby. Within a few days, Deimos recovered, and his condition is now excellent. For the future, the owner plans to buy a GPS collar for his pet.

This heartwarming story showcases the incredible resilience and loyalty of our furry friends. Deimos’ ten-day adventure in the wilderness serves as a reminder of the bond between humans and animals, and the lengths they will go to find their way back home.
